Origins
In Shadow
A number of myths and metaphors are used to describe the origin
of picture-making or more specifically the origin of painting
and photography. Almost all begin with shadows. Probably because
of its striking filmic evocation, Plato's Cave allegory or metaphor
is the favoured starting-point in contemporary theory.
