David Cameron at Demos (1866) January 2006 | Another

David Cameron, the recently elected leader of the Conservative Party gives a speech to the centre-left think-tank Demos.

'Blair grasped Thatcher legacy, now Tories must retake centre ground says Cameron'
Article by Tania Branigan, political correspondent at the Guardian.

Every now and then I go along to talks at Demos; a centre-left think tank. I got an invite last week to a talk/speech by David Cameron. The place was packed, but I managed to find a seat to one side and close to a window. I set the camera up on the window sill, the scene was ready, I just had to wait for the main character to arrive and go into action.

Early times yet for this leader.

Hi Stewart, yep, he's only been on the main political map for a couple of months but has managed to get a huge amount of media coverage.

It's taken me a while to realise that this is a direct shot. I use the word tentatively. Did you really get this close to one of our political leaders and point something at him without get arrested or ejected from the hall by stewards?
It's a good picture.

Hi Tom, thanks .. yep I got away with this one! I should have included some background to this picture in the caption. Maybe I'll add some words to the caption.

Hi Tony. This picture continues to intrigue me. It's good to see a politician with no political slogans in the frame and with no lectern or mic. And you've caught a nicely puzzled expression on his face.

Hi Tom, the picture is also slightly soft through using a low shutter speed. Because of the way I was set up and the slight delay on the shutter release I had to fire off quite a few frames to get this one picture - no problem with digital though.
