The Garage on Chalk Farm Road in Camden (1756) February 2006 | Another

The Garage
The Garage on Chalk Farm Road in Camden charges £4 ($7) for a gallon of petrol, which is incredibly cheap considering it will take you 30 miles while you sit in a seat and watch the world go by. On average that's only £4 for an hour of entertainment.

Time to change garage! Or fill up further north
But it does look a cheery garage with all the yellow!

Aiguille, hi. It seems most garages are around £4 a gallon in London. I'm glad I have a bike and don't have to think about garages too often!

Is this the same garage as ~ http://tinyurl.com/8a5sk ?

The other garage is in Delancey Street, just up the road from Chalk Farm Road. But both seem have been built in the same era - the 30s.

I know this garage and not too long ago the yellow part was covered in ivy and looked nice and rustic, remember? You don't need petrol Tony you need plenty of that super duper coffee to keep your pedaling power up.

Hi Stewart, I wonder if the house owners and the garage owners had a dispute over the ivy growing up the wall and around the light and this was the resolution of that dispute!? I need more than a superDcoffee to get me out today .. a cold I had hanging around me last week has gone to my chest, which has left me in a somewhat redundant state.

Who knows what interest lies in petrol today? The shadows know...! great shadow, whatever the Ivy. Lets have a conversion to the US price to open out the discussion to our US friends.

Whew! A bike is a good thing. I also love to just walk.

Nice shadows, shame about the petrol. Is there life beyond petrol? It cost British Petroleum £1M in consultants fees to come up with their new name . . . Beyond Petroleum.

In that case put some rum in your coffee,it cured me of the flu once.

Hi Douglas, a lifestyle based on consuming petrol is obviously going to become more problematic as we drift through the next decade. Thinking is gradually changing, but I think many ordinary people will experience great changes in their lives before sustainable solutions are implemented by people in power.

Hi Terry, cycling and walking are an easy and quick way of getting around in the city. Also electric carts, like golf carts would be fun. We could get rid of all the car parking meters and replace them with cart battery chargers! We'd have another solution to the car problem and make the city more pedestrian friendly. And maybe we could also have some putting greens and crazy golf in the parks!

Tom .. 'beyond petroleum' .. alternatives and renewables probably take up 4/5% of the BP budget .. but if they do too much R&D in this area they could seriously damage their 20th century business model. The petrol business runs on an economy driven by people buying its products every day. An economy based on 'alternatives', especially 'renewables' probably wouldn't produce the massive profits the shareholders gag for. An economy based on sustainable principles would produce reduced profits for all these big companies - and BP wouldn't want to end up going 'beyond profits'.

Stewart, a double rum in the coffee did the trick !! Now where did I put those dilithium crystals, I think I may have an idea beyond petroleum, or is that Beyond the Peak, when world oil demand outstrips supply.

Thanks for your help today. I've had a little 'play' with the index page but need to know how to make a link to a website! Am sure it will make sense tomorrow. Or the day after...
The curry is bubbling as I write. It's gonna be the best yet...
Get well sooner!

Hi Tony. I read to day that bp are making records profits - £1.5 a minute!

17. Posted by Tom on 2/8/2006 11:00:13 AM
Oops. That should read £1.5M per hour. That's all right then. It took them as much as forty minutes to earn enough to pay for their caring image.

Hi twig, glad to have been of help, it was more fun than teaching. Ah, the A HREF code again, I'll send you some info on making links. It's getting better.

Hi Tom, interesting piece of info .. so it takes 40 minutes to produce a caring image, maybe the image will help car drivers feel less concerned about their contribution to global warming.

Hi Robert, thank you. TA is a great place to have these 'captured' conversations.
