Michelangelo Drawings at the British Museum (2629) March 2006
The Michelangelo Drawings exhibition opens at the British Museum tomorrow, Thursday 23 March. Jude had conserved some of the drawings on display and we went along last Friday to have a look at the work of this Italian Renaissance sculptor, painter and architect. The people in the photograph are reading about 'The Crucifixion with the Virgin and St John'.

I like the shadow movement overlaping the ladys left shoulder...if accidental it goes so well with the theme of this art ...I'll be at the the Louvre soon, can't wait to check out some classics.

Skidoo, it's easy to spend many weeks just wandering around this place and take in something 'new' each day.

Hi izZZ, I waited a little while for something to happen, for some 'characters' to enter the frame, I also needed to be discreet, in case I was stopped making this snapshot .. so this was an informed accident .. but if I'm asked by the authorities it was all done in photoshop!

LOL@Tony...

Ahhhh Grasshopper, 'discreet' ~ 'stopped' ~ you are gradually revealing your secrets at last!
Michelangelo had similar problems...

Perfect catch!. Specially the lights over the drawings. Great shots and thanks for sharing a little bit about this exhibition.

izZZ, the Louvre ( http://tinyurl.com/c52zv ) is a marvellous place to visit .. I hope you manage to record your experiences there - without having to be too circumspect ;-]

Twig, 'photo-drawing' has been made easy with the automatic digital cameras, the hard part is getting oneself together to do it .. oh, and, it helps to have an interesting point of view.

Hi Neoslv, thank you. The lighting for this whole exhibtion is very good - few problems with hot spots and reflections. This particular drawing is normally on display in the Prints & Drawings gallery at the British Museum, but the display cases and lighting there are of an older design and don't bring out the features of the drawing as well as this set up.

Hi Tony, looks like a nice indoor photo, imHo, being a very amateur photographer -- drat, that left-hand lady moved during the long exposure. -- robert

Well, this photo gives me a hint in the question about shot paintings. Do you take the whole scene in the exposition, not only a specific paint.

Hi Robert, thanks. This 'ghosting' effect caused by long exposure can be seen as a distraction sometimes and at other times an enhancement - I'm beginning to like the distraction.

Odon, if I understand your thought here - this scene was 'captured' by the camera (Nikon 8400) in automatic mode, well more or less automatic - I set the camera to aperture priority and let the shutter stay open for longer to record some movement in the characters who came into the frame.

Remarkable! I would love to visit there and see everything else, too. Maybe spend a week on it!
