Filming Penelope in London (2632) March 2006
Walking back home through Russell Square with Jude the other evening we come across Mark Palansky directing 'Penelope'. This fairy tale is about a woman with the face of a pig who is searching for love and finds herself in the process. The woman is played by Christina Ricci, who is somewhere in the middle of this picture!

Interesting,I have never seen a venue in Russell Square before it must have been a good setting amongst all those lofty plane trees a change from the usual Open air Theatre in Regents Park. Was it free or did you have to buy a ticket it's so expensive in london now so a free show here and there would be a breath of fresh air.

Hi Tony, I have never seen a venue in Russell Square, either. Wasn't Christina Ricci in the Munsters? How do you get the dark background and the bright foreground in the same photo? --Robert

I like night shots because they have its own difficulty to catch the scene!. Great shot.

Stewart, this is a location film set. The centre part of the square was cordoned off but the public could still walk through the square .. and take photographs .. that's if the security people didn't stop you.

Robert, I set the camera up on the mini tripod and the camera automatically exposes for the bright lights .. and as it's night time the background just fades to black .. The End.

Hi Neoslv, thanks, I was fortunate here because I had a camera and a mini tripod with me - and the automatic features on the camera deal with night light reasonable well .. all I have to do is find somewhere to position the camera.

Blow Up ~ Do you remember the film being shot in Regents street in the 60's...Down an alley ????Swallow street??? ~ probably on our way to Piccadilly bowl! Perhaps mentioned this before but Hemmings went into a club there but ended up coming out the Rikki Tick in Hounslow!! The magic of movies...
btw ~ Beaut shot!

The security people, as always. But how to resist to make a shot in such a place? Even in disguise. This is the only situation where a cell phone camera could take advantage over a standard camera. Do you can simulate a telephone call as excuses to make the shot.

Good point Odon, now we just need Nikon to make a 'CoolPhone' to get that sagacious shot!

this is a beauty - love the night shots, especially with this much going on, almost (but not quite) burnt out in places
