Mis-en-scene, Hampstead Heath (0006) April 2006 | Another
I went up to Hampstead Heath to try out my new camera (Nikon D50) on Tuesday and came across this scene in the Viaduct Pond.

Looks like the fish and the action man had a fight and they both came off badly. Maybe the fish choked after biting off action mans head? fascinating stuff. I wonder what the real story is.

Hi Stewart, the Nikon D50 worked well on this day. I wasn't sure how I would take to an 'SLR' (Single Lens Reflex) camera again, but the ergonomics on this camera are fine. The viewfinder is clear and being able to use manual or auto-focus is a treat.

Funny, hi and thanks ... beauty takes on many forms!

Hi Swig, your story sounds pretty good - maybe go along with that one for now .. umm, but (in)action man has his head face down in the water, so maybe the fish didn't choke on the head.

BTW Stewart, Mickey, one of the conservation workers on Hampstead Heath, suggested the aquatic weed in the Viaduct Pond is called 'Zolla' and is a red algae.

Very beautiful! But sometimes, the deepest reflections ends like this: suicide! 8-|

Hmmm you stumbled on the doll-icide scene... Dont touch anything. wait for the CSI team to dust for finger prints... :-D
How do you like the D50? How does the RAW image hold up when you scale the size up?

uh oh... maybe gang related? ;-D Cool shot Tony!

Odon, hi, and thanks. Yes, maybe the action man just didn't get enough action.

The CSI team are flying in WES, trouble is I think that red algae has something to do with this situation and it's eating up the evidence!
The D50 is an easy camera to use. Being an SLR it means I'm looking through the viewfinder all the time, whereby on the Nikon 8400 I used the swivel screen a lot. It'll be interesting to see how it affects the types of pictures I make.
I mainly started using this camera to get into using the RAW format. I want to learn how to 'process' images and begin to make good prints this year.

Robert, seems like you have some interesting thoughts about this situation .. maybe you can become part of the CSI team to fly over for the investigation, oh, and bring your new camera too - cameras are always handy for recording evidence.

Comment #12 ~ There's no 'red' in this picture - as in "... I think that red algae has something to do with this situation..."
Red is just a pigment of your imagination!

following comment 12 - I recently had a look at the D50 and was amazed to find that it's all through the viewfinder (apparently all digital SLR's are this way, the shop assistant explained while making me feel quite stupid). How are you finding that? Not sure I could cope with all that winking / squinting again.

Hi twig, looking at the situation in Black & White I would say the dummy's head is engulfed in a seemingly unusual form of pond weed (algae). In colour the situation becomes just another step removed from reality.

It's Wednesday and I'm in Maldon. I've managed to book this computer in the local library for a very short period of time - they close early - other people booked.
Over the last few months we've often been coming to Maldon to help Claire cope with an increasingly painful back. Yesterday we had to get the doctor out again, and he admitted her to the district hospital, we were there all yesterday afternoon. We'll stay in Maldon this week and visit her each day this week.
More tomorrow .. time running out.

Angie, hi, and thank you.

Hi Swig, I'm getting used to looking, and learning to 'see'. through the viewfinder on the D50. The viewfinder allows me to focus precisely and check the depth of field, and the 'feedback' of aperture and speed at the bottom of the viewfinder is useful.
The main reason for buying the D50 was to have a little bit more camera control over the process of making pictures. I also want to save the images in the RAW format so that I'll be able to learn and develop useful post-processing techniques.
It's working well so far.
