Winchelsea Beach (6893) December 2006 | Another
I want to be ...
alone on Winchelsea Beach looking at light over water.
I made a photomovie of Winchelsea Beach after coming across some music that seemed to compliment my pics and suggest a contemplative mood.

castleblue says: i love this... and the music sings to me so light and ethereal. I look at the pilings where no one walks and only ghost ships dock, and i think you're right... "It's ok to be alone... for a little while."
Another Tony says: Greg, this is a place of ghost ships.
Winchelsea was once one of the largets ports in England. This area has been the landing point for many invasions from the Romans on. Hastings (1066) can be seen along the coast, and it seems the French have always been landing here and causing havoc.
In 1928 a lifeboat was hit by a huge wave at the mouth of the River Rother with the loss of all 17 crew; an inscription in the nearby Church of St Thomas the Martyr remembers them:
'In the darkness of their supreme hour they stayed not to weigh doubt or danger but freely offering their portion in this life for the ransom of men they had never known, they went boldly into the last of all their storms.'
With the harbour now a place of shingle and the people moving into cities this has become a sea of memories and tranquilty.
Black Dust a.k.a. odonbd says: Great scenery, Tony . Very clean image, with a soft color transition. This time I see the photomovie without problems. Some really amazing pictures, there. Photomovies are good for gather the pictures, because you always have a lot about a theme or a place after a series and blog all the ones it's a bit heavy. Nice soundtrack, too.
Another Tony says: Odon, I'm glad you can see the photomovies OK now. This photomovie is larger than usual, coming in at 600x900, and I was wondering if this may be too large, or that some other problems may occur (?).
I agree with you about the gathering of pics into a themed slideshow (photomovie), it means that just 'key' pics can be blogged and the rest incorporated into these slideshows.
And, Apple's iPhoto (linked to iTunes) makes it so easy, and enjoyable, to make these photomovies.
clifsnap10 says: Stunning movie Tony. Very much aloneness with a feeling of being part of something very BIG. A touch of Derick Jarman if I may say so.
Have a good christmas, try and have a relaxing christmas dinner without taking any photographs!!!!
MauritsBurgers.com says: I love this kind of picture Tony... great stuff
roel1943 says: Amazingly Tony, every picture take my breath away and the music is like a Siamese twin
Another Tony says: Cliff, seeing the nearly straight line of a the horizon is a rare site if you live in the city, by the sea the sense of space and aloneness is invigorating. We walked past Derek Jarman's place, Prospect Cottage, in Dungeness while we were here, I don't remember his films too well, although I like his ideas of semi-narrative film-making .. i do remember a pop video he made of Marianne Faithfull singing from Broken English, I've still got the LP.
I think we'll have a relaxing and nearly vegetarian christmas dinner. I don't usually photograph christmas, but you've prompted me to think about it this year and I might be tempted to make a (wobbly) christmas movie!
Another Tony says: Maurits, hello and thank you, it's good to have you stop by.
Another Tony says: Roel, these photographs would have lain dormant if I hadn't come across this music - the music brings these still images alive.
another twig says: Threads and connections but not for here except to ponder about the groins ....
Another Tony says: Our imaginations can roam beyond the piles ...
stewpic says: Nice shot, I still can't see the photomovie yet.
Another Tony says: Stewart, hi and thanks. I hope you manage to get the movie viewing on your computer sorted out over christmas.
thereindeer says: F22Dec2006-16.33,Marylebone library, downstairs at computer G- another lovely photograph. It looks like a calm day, with the long groyne and the ripples in the sand - robert
